Why would I participate in a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program?

Being a part of a Food Share Program is a great way to eat fresh, seasonal food. It allows you to know where your food comes from, how it is grown and as such supports your local farmers.  Being health conscious you can enjoys cooking meals using healthy farm fresh vegetables and fruits.  As the produce contained within the box is fresh from the fields, it is important that you refrigerate it to maintain maximum freshness.  We will provide tips and tricks for storage, as well as great recipes to explore and try on our website!

Do you offer family shares, half shares and personal shares?

Yes, we do.

fold faq

How much is in one share?

We will have 7-12 different items in each share per week:  a family share would be good for an average family of 4-5 people or a veggie loving couple and the half/mid share quantity of vegetables suits 2-3 people and the personal size is good for single person,a couple or if you have young children who do not consume a lot of vegetables.

If you start with one size and as the season progresses it is either too much or too little, there is no problem to change the size of bin you receive.

As we progress through the 22 weeks, and get into a full summer growing season and in the Fall, there will be more items in the share than in the Spring. Each week will contain an interesting variety of known and maybe some, new to you, fresh vegetables and fruits. As a member you will receive a weekly newsletter that includes recipes for the produce.

fold faq

What will be in my share box?

The vegetables that we have grown for years, as well as a selection of additional ones, will be offered for home delivery.  Fresh vegetables and fruits will be added as they become seasonally available depending on the growing and weather conditions.  Below is a sample of what could be available throughout the season.

Starting in the Spring: asparagus, peas, green onions, radishes, English cucumbers, tomatoes, rhubarb.

During the summer: beans, beets, carrots, beefsteak heritage tomatoes and yellow and red cherry tomatoes, green onions, romaine lettuce, spanish onions, sweet corn, potatoes, English cucumbers, garlic, broccoli, cauliflower, zucchini. Fruits available are: strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, apples, plums, peaches, nectarines, pears, watermelon, and cantaloupe

Including the vegetables listed above the Fall also brings: root crops, cabbages, brussel sprouts, turnips, kale, leeks, celery, cooking onions, parsnips, winter squash and pumpkins.

Even though this is an extensive list- items may still be added as the season progresses-it all depends on the growing conditions. We strive to give you the best quality vegetables and fruits possible.

Check out our growing chart to see when produce is available and when.

Can I pick which items I receive?

Sorry, no. Round The Bend Farm is a working farm. We grow everything in its season and pick it at its best. The share is a balanced mix of what the farm has available in the fields on that particular week.  We hope you will enjoy getting surprised each week, and enjoy trying things you might otherwise not have tried.

If you have an allergy to a particular vegetable or fruit, please let us know and it will not be placed in your box.

fold faq

How will I know what to expect in the boxes each week?

If you wish to know the contents each week, we will be sending out a weekly email on Tuesdays. This will allow you to properly plan for any other non-local produce needs.

fold faq

Where is the produce grown for the Food Share Program?

No.  There is no tax on fresh food products and the prices listed are the price for the full season.

There is HST included in delivery.

fold faq

How do I pay for my Food Share?

To help us, as farmers, this is a pre-paid program where you can pay for the entire season up front upon registration and take a 5% discount of the total purchase value, or pay the first half of the season upon registration and the remainder of the season's payment is due by July 30, 2017.

Payment can be made at the farm (or over the phone) with Visa or Mastercard.

Debit payments can be made at the farm.  Please call before you come, we are often busy in the fields and hard to find!

We also accept cash or cheques payable to "Round The Bend Farm."

fold faq

What happens if we go on vacation or need a break?

Yes, we are flexible with vacation times. If you're planning to be out of town for vacation or would like a break and do not require your food share, tell us at least 7 days(earlier is better) in advance to when your vacation starts. Then a bin will not be made in your name. If advance notice is given, a farm credit will be issued for the bin amount.

Allowable Vacation Weeks:  if not calculated at registration, up to 4 weeks vacation allowable in the 22 week season.

If you know your vacation time at registration, the math will be done only on the weeks that you receive the bin.  You will not be billed for vacation time that is booked off at the time of registration. If you miss a week or do not give proper notice you will be billed for that week.  This works even if you do not know when you will be away when you register.

Please arrange an alternate person (ie: friend/family) to pick up that weeks produce.   At your discretion they can purchase that weeks produce off you or you can gift it to them.   Or, on your behalf, we can donate it to a local family in need.
We also accept cash or cheques payable to Round The Bend Farm".

fold faq

What if I can no longer receive my food share box?

The food share program is prepaid early in the season.  Each person is counted on to take the share of the harvest for which they've paid.

No refunds can be given because your share is already seeded, planted, being weeded, watered and cared for until it is ready for you.

We suggest you give your box to a neighbour or friend or have us deliver it to the nearest food bank.

fold faq

Can members visit the farm?
