Seasonal Vegetables

So when does the vegetable season start?  Well after the long winter we look forward to the beginning of the vegetable season, after the last killing frost in May, with fresh asparagus picked daily from our fields. Did you know asparagus can grow 1 inch an hour on warm sunny days?

We have an 'early bird garden' in our greenhouse that produces lettuces, carrots, beets, kohlrabi, bok choi, green onions, beans and more... all ready for mid to late May.

And then we start planting our 40 acres farm--all the vegetables you can imagine from zucchini to cauliflower, broccoli, corn, onions, tomatoes, garlic, potatoes, celery, leeks and more.  If you check out our facebook pages there are pictures of the fields and the greenhouse, full of growing vegetables.

Every year we try something new and we now grow okra, eggplant, tomatillo, sweet potatoes and melons.  This year we are going to try growing a yellow and and orange watermelon. By putting down plastic and drip irrigation we can keep the soil warm and water the plants when they need it.  So here's to a sunny warm summer with regular rains!

In the fall we have a massive harvest of pumpkins, squash, gourds, Indian corn, cabbages, turnips, brussel sprouts and kale.  I'm sure I've forgotten something--so be sure to come on by and check out what we grow!
